To be a Pinellas County Sheriff's Explorer, you must be:
  • 14 to 21 years old
  • Enrolled in high school or a local college
  • A good student with a minimum GPA of 2.0 and have regular attendance
  • Of good moral character with no felony convictions - references will be requested
  • Able to attend meetings and training sessions by arranging your own transportation
  • Must be physically able to exercise and able to stand for long periods of time

 

The Explorer Academy is scheduled for June 16-20, 2008.  The academy includes law enforcement training provided by Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office personnel, and is a wonderful opportunity to experience the diversity of a career in law enforcement. Applicants will be expected to meet the eligibility requirements of an Explorer to include being between 14 and 21years old, maintaining a 2.0 GPA, and having good moral character without criminal convictions.

A background screening will be completed and acceptance letters will be provided to those who qualify.  Please be aware that space is limited, so qualified applicants will be chosen on a first come first serve basis.  Membership in the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Explorer Post 900 will be considered upon completion of the academy.

Transportation is being arranged from meeting locations in both the northern and southern ends of the county.  Please refer back to the website for updates.

The registration fee of $25.00 includes transportation costs, an academy t-shirt, and administrative costs for the week.  Attendees will be expected to bring a lunch, appropriate behavior, and a good attitude every day. 

Explorer Post #900 is on its summer schedule and will not be taking applications until fall.

Meetings are routinely scheduled for Tuesday nights from 6:45PM to 9:00PM at 10750 Ulmerton Road, Largo, Florida 33778.
