Twenty seven members of Post 900 participated in the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office annual fund-raising effort, Ride & Run with the Stars, on Saturday, December 5, 2009.
The Explorers packed into vans by 5:30 AM on that wet Saturday morning to lend a hand in the success of the event at Ft. DeSoto. In preparation for both bicycle and foot races, Explorers helped load supplies, set up Sag Stops along the race routes, volunteered at posts along the route to secure the safety of those racing and to distribute water, juices & fruit. They also volunteered in the beverage stand, at the silent auction tables, and assisted Santa & Mrs. Claus as they arrived in Santa’s newest mode of transportation, a Sheriff’s Office helicopter. Explorers provided a safe landing zone in a field alongside the fort. And, of course, Post 900 always stays to help clean up!
Although the weather was rainy and cold, die-hard racers and stanch supporters were out to raise money for the Sheriff’s Christmas Sharing Project. The project helps to provide holiday gifts to children who have been victimized by crime or whose families have fallen on hard times.
Explorer Post 900 is proud to participate every year and wishes everyone a safe and happy holiday!
