Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Explorer Post 900 participates in the F.A.P.E. January Delegate's Meeting hosted by the Ft. Myer's Police Explorers

Thirteen members of the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Explorer Post 900 participated in a Florida Association of Police Explorers Delegates meeting in Ft. Myers on January 23-24, 2009.

On Saturday instructors provided classroom training on crisis intervention and verbal judo.  Following each hour long class, Explorers participated in scenario training.  Several crises related scenarios were prepared giving our members the opportunity to deal with subjects exhibiting various mental health concerns ranging from suicidal tendencies to autism.   They were also given an audio device to wear that offered some incite into what someone suffering from schizophrenia might feel when interviewed by a law enforcement officer.  Explorers were then given the opportunity to apply some of the newly acquired verbal judo skills during scenarios with non-compliant and confrontational subjects.  The day culminated with a Wii bowling competition sponsored by Best Buy of Ft. Myers.

On Sunday, seven members of Post 900 competed in a pistol match. Explorer Keith Felsman placed first, Explorer Matthew Sauter placed second, and Nathan Mowatt placed 3rd in the Sharpshooter Division.  Explorer Keith Felsman also received the overall match champion trophy.  Not only were individual members successful, but the team, including Explorers Keith Felsman, Matthew Sauter, Nathan Mowatt and Elias Karr, received the first place team trophy as well.  Congratulations Post 900!
