On Monday, December 3, 2007 four members of Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Explorer Post 900 attended the Florida Orchestra/Steinbrenner Christmas Celebration for the Pinellas County Schools’ Students Targeted for Achievement Recognition and Success (STARS) Program at Ruth Eckerd Hall.  The New York Yankees -George Steinbrenner Foundation sponsored this annual event celebrating the holidays and encouraging children who struggle academically.  The Florida Orchestra performed several seasonal selections and introduced the various musical instruments of the orchestra.  The event included special ballet performances and a reading of “T’was the Night Before Christmas” by “Macho Man” Randy Savage.  Everyone participated in a carol sing-along and a special appearance by Santa Claus was the highlight of the day.  Pinellas County Explorers and other agency members distributed a gift to each child in attendance.  The Yankee Bags donated by the Steinbrenner Foundation included several items of New York Yankee memorabilia.  Explorers volunteered time to collect the bags from Legend’s Field and were enthusiastic to begin this holiday season by bringing smiles to other children’s faces.
