Twelve members of Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Explorer Post 900 participated in the Florida Association of Police Explorer’s state delegates meeting and pistol competition held in Pinellas Park, Florida on January 19-20.  Explorer Posts from around the state met for a full day of training at the Pinellas Park High School.  Explorers had the opportunity to participate in a number of training scenarios.  They were exposed to two first aid events.  Firefighter/Paramedics from the Pinellas Park Fire Department conducted the training and critique of each event, while members of Pinellas Park Fire Explorers assisted as role players.  Explorers also had the opportunity to participate in a traffic crash scenario, an active shooter scenario, a hostage negotiation, and an in-progress scenario.  During Sunday’s pistol competition, Explorer Michael Metzger received a 5th place trophy in the marksman division, Explorer Captain Luke Dougherty received a 5th placed trophy in the Expert division, Explorer Lieutenant Thomas Garmon received a 2nd place trophy in the Sharp Shooter Division, and Explorer Corporal Cody Malander received a 1st place trophy in the Expert Division.  Explorer Malander also brought home the 1st Place individual over-all trophy!  Way to Go, Cody!  Our pistol team members, Luke Dougherty, Thomas Garmon, Joshua Davidson, and Cody Malander, continue to hold the title of 2nd place in the state!  We are so proud of each of these young men.  Their level of commitment and enthusiasm attests to the caliber of young men and women that comprise the membership of Explorer Post 900.
