Explorer Post #900

Explorer Captain Luke Dougherty receives award at the
Boy Scouts of America West Central Florida Council 2008 Banquet

Explorer Captain Luke Dougherty of the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Explorer Post 900 received the “Young American Award” at the Boy Scouts of America West Central Florida Council 2008 Banquet.   The award, which publicly highlights the excellent achievements and service to community, state, and nation, was presented by Learning for Life Vice-President Tom Wellner at the Harborview Center on Thursday, February 28, 2008.

Competition for this award spanned the varied exploring programs available, to include fire explorer posts, flight explorer posts, medical explorer posts, and many other law enforcement explorer posts in our area.  Luke was chosen by an independent group of judges based on his accomplishments, service, academic ability and recommendations.  Luke’s extensive list of volunteerism and awards include working with the Silent Titans, a sign language club at St. Petersburg College, membership and mentoring in the St. Matthew’s Youth Group, and his leadership role as commander of Post 900.

Luke’s devotion and commitment to Explorer Post 900 helped to provide the level of leadership and responsibility that made him qualify for this auspicious award.  He has been an active member of the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Explorer Post since August of 2003.  He has worked diligently to learn as much as possible, earned his title as post commander in February 2007, and continues to pour himself into the community service events that exploring promotes.

Explorer Post 900 is proud of Luke’s continued success.
